It’s Fall. The leaves are swirling. The warm breeze kisses my cheeks as I park beside the road and take in the beautiful sunset. A moment in time that speaks without words. Calm. Contentment. I’m taking in the sunset, but it’s so much more.
The light blue Vespa contrasts with the red sun in the background and the colorful leaves to capture a moment that words cannot fully express. Techniques used include sponge painting, dry brushing, and traditional brush strokes. I was inspired by the Vespa. It appears in many of my sketches. It makes me think of my father, who owns and rides his own. The feeling of calm and relaxation at the end of the day.
My goals throughout the process of this piece were to capture a feeling through color and objects. Although I don’t typically paint landscapes, it was easy for me to lose myself in the imagery of the tableau. Usually with my art, I try to shade into colors. Here, I let myself paint color on top of color. I loved this process. With the leaves, I loved the beautiful messiness...the swimming of colors.
